Happy Day! (SSMS™)

The final installment of the Summer Solstice Mystery Shawl has arrived! It’s 30 rows as charted, with some optional repeats to add length. SSMS™ #3 will not be receiving any additional length, as I’m not sure about my yarn yardage, and would hate to run out before I’m done. However, I have plenty of extra Kauni Effekt, so SSMS™ #2 will continue to have all the extra length for which the pattern provides. (I’m also doing this because I love how seeing minor modifications to a pattern – such as extra repeats – provide for an entirely different finished product.)

I’ve just finished recharting 1 the pattern, and now my biggest problem is to decide whether to start in on SSMS™ #2 or #3. Life is hard.

Oh! But first, I should show you my progress on SSMS™ #2. As reported, I had to completely rip this one out and start over after discovering an error in my recharting (one of the perils of the process, I’m afraid). I just finished reworking the pattern to the then-current state of affairs last night.

SSMS™ #2: Part D Complete: 2012.07.17

I pretty clearly goofed when switching between balls of yarn, but I’ve decided I can live with it. This is a huge step for me. Normally, I would rip it all out and start over again. I think the regularly delivery of pattern pieces keeps me from succumbing to my normal level of nit-pickiness.

Unlike SSMS™ #2, #3 is going to require some pretty aggressive blocking. I love this yarn to pieces, but holy hell, it curls like crazy in anything remotely resembling stockinette. Once #3 is finished, I will have the shawl and a scarf to block in this yarn. (As well as 2 other scarves, and a sweater. I hate blocking. I need to find a blocking service who will take care of these little details for me.)

Anyway, enough typing. More knitting.
