A clear sign that you might be meri…

If you can have the following conversation with your SO, you just might be a meri:

[meri] I’m going downstairs to wind yarn.

[G] Ok! Have fun. Don’t hurt yourself.

[meri] … (Thinking this is in reference to the painful knees.) It’s mostly a sitting operation.

[G] Don’t hurt yourself.

Hrmph.

Achievement unlocked: Car (mostly) cleaned out.

While it may not sound like a big deal to clean out one’s car, this was a special case.

Back when I parted ways with Noblis (in February, mind you), my poor officemate Brian was stuck with the job of packing up my side of the office. I finally went and picked up all the boxes and other stuff he’d packed only when he was about to get another officemate. I’ve been driving around with this stuff in my car ever since. So, yeah, for like 7 months or so.

With much help from G, the boxes and other stuff has been sorted into keep / toss, the toss dealt with accordingly, and the keep brought inside. There’s a little bit of cleanup left to do in the car, but it’s minor compared to having the entire back of a RAV-4 filled with stuff.

Also, now that that’s taken care of, I can take advantage of the super-duper interior detailing GroupOn that I picked up a couple of weeks ago. This will be fabulous, as my car hasn’t had a good cleaning in a couple of years, and there’s a lot of dust and former-smoker-grime in the vehicle that I would like to have go away. And this way, my car will be all spiffy and clean before Liv, Carel, Ivo, Tara, and half the world show up for MAAWG next month.

Many many thanks to G, without whom this would have been impossible.

Time keeps on slipping, etc.

I design planners for people. (Think Franklin-Covey, DayPlanner, etc. Except customized to your needs, and the information you want / need to capture, and the way you actually use your planner.) As the end of September is approaching (which had to be pointed out to me, but which I eventually accepted, with minimal kicking and screaming), I fired up InDesign to work on Q4 planner pages.

One of my common designs has a “future planning” section on the last page of each month, with sections blocked out for each of the three following months. So, as I finished working on October, I had to type in January 2013 for the first time, and that’s when it actually hit me that 2012 is more gone than not. Where the hell has this year gone?

Testing, testing…

Nothing to see here. Move along.

In theory, this should be automatically posted to my LiveJournal account, but not my Facebook account. We’ll see how that works out, in reality.

Do things that have never been done before.

A wonderful story about a blogger who unexpectedly has his world view shifted a little by the man who invented the first internally programmable computer.

Good morning, Internets.

Today is looking to be remarkably unpleasant, meteorologically speaking. I hope everyone manages to stay cool, or – at the very least – hydrated. My plans for the day include geeking (which OSX keeps trying to correct to “geeing”), cleaning, knitting (probably finishing one of the SSMS™s) and perhaps lunch with G. There are definitely worse ways to spend a day. Best of luck with whatever adventures you may meet today!

A query for my (book friends) && (Mac friends).

A few short years ago, Delicious Library was the pinnacle of “I own a Mac and I want to catalog all of my books” software. Then they got in a fight with Amazon, and have apparently pretty much written off the fabulous product. As I’m seriously pondering going through and laying hands on all of my books again, I thought it might be a good time to recatalog them. And thus, my query.

Keeps going, and going… just slowly.

Perfect activities for a low-energy day: puttering around in the morning, a brief nap, then south the be accosted by Jenn’s dogs for a while. Sushi dinner with G and Jenn. Now hanging out with Jenn and watching some TV and geeking before it’s time for bed. Good day.

Today must be Thursday.

I just got mail from a software vendor. This is not, in and of itself, all that unusual. However, what is kind of strange is that it was actually an email message directly to me, as opposed to an advertisement or announcement of some sort. Further, it was sent to an email address associated with a job that I haven’t had in nearly 9 years. To round out the weirdness factor, it was asking about a piece of software that I’d purchased for the team I was with 11 years ago, asking if we had any plans to upgrade to Windows 7.

If that’s a lead worth following-up on in your sales world, I’m sorry, man. I’ve forwarded your message on to the best person I could think of to handle it. Best of luck to you.

Don’t cross the streams!

I’m currently reading three different series: one in electronic form (Harry Potter), one in audiobook form (Sookie Stackhouse), and one in print (Discworld). Gods above, my brain hurts when I confuse the plotlines.
