Sushi @ Fugakyu (Sudbury, MA) with meri

If you live in Massachusetts (or the surrounding states, really), you’ve probably already seen this, either on Facebook or Google Plus. But, just in case I’ve somehow managed to miss you, here it is, one more time:

  • Who: You! (And, you know, whoever you decide to bring.)
  • What: Sushi with meri (and friends)
  • Where: Fugakyu (Sudbury, MA)
  • When: Saturday, 2014.10.25, 19:00
  • Why: Because I’ll actually be in Massachusetts, and would love to see you!

For want of a tote bag.

TL;DR: meri babbling about a bag that doesn’t exist.  (more…)

Maple Leaf Shawl: Progress Update

The Maple Leaf Shawl is continuing apace. The whole base of the leaf is done, as is the first corner (top right). I have the stitches for the second corner (top left) separated out and ready to go. Overall, the shawl should end up being 51″ wide, though that’s with some pretty aggressive blocking. Also, there are a bazillion loose ends.

Maple Leaf Shawl

It’s gonna be one of those days.

(Small context: We’ve had a foot of snow.)

[meri] Today is gonna be a long day. I can tell.
[meri] I’m feeling cabin fever, just from knowing that I can’t go out.
[meri] And layout is slow.
[meri] Also, I have no pony.
[meri] I do, however, have yarn. Maybe I’ll make a pony.
[meri] … I wonder if I have any pony patterns.

This is me, not going to Ravelry.

Discovery of the day: Skill lost.

It’s early yet, so another discovery might surpass this one, but this one is kind of annoying.

I appear to have lost the ability to be simultaneously reading one thing, typing another, listening to another, and speaking a fourth thing. I used to have to do this all the time when I worked at Kinko’s as a desktop publisher, and honed it when I was a sysadmin at various places.

However, I was just trying to do something along those lines here at home (reading a piece of text in a web browser, typing a correlating piece of text into InDesign, listening to the television, and singing a song), and it all ended up a mess. I ended up either typing what I was reading or listening to, or singing what I was typing. I suppose I should be happy that I didn’t sprain something.

So, what weird thing can you do? Or can you no longer do that you used to do?

Bainbridge Island Help

I’m thinking of taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island on Monday. I love the water, and I love ferries, and there’s a lovely-looking yarn / tea shop on the Island. I would like to take the ferry out, and then drive back (two totally different views, from what I understand). Is this a sane thing to do? Also, is there reasonable parking on Bainbridge Island?

Seattle (and Beyond) Plans

First, my plans today already shot, because I planned to sleep in later than 5:30 this morning. This should have worked, as I was up much of the night with my sinus / ear unhappiness. However, my body and brain appear to have missed the memo, and so it has been an early start to the day.

But, I will not be deterred! I have plans! (This is far more information that you want about my schedule for the next couple of weeks, and is recorded here mostly so I can have a record to go back and compare what I actually manage to do against what I planned to do.)

TL;DR: My plans for the next two weeks. Including a couple of open days in Seattle, if anyone wants to grab a bite.

Seasonal Cards

[ Yes, this is a Winter Holiday That Shall Remain Unnamed Post. If this is going to cause you trauma, please skip it. ]

I think the last time I tried to do this was about 15 years ago, and it was an utter failure. But, I may have recovered from the trauma, or I’ve just lost my mind (again, more, whatever), because I’m ready to give it another try.

If you would like to be on my Winter Holiday card recipient list, please privately message me your mailing address. I don’t promise much beyond a silly card, a pithy greeting, and a signature, but a girl’s gotta start somewhere, right? (Also, by sending me your address, you have promised to not be angry if I manage to completely fail at this venture once again.)

This is not the normal I seek.

I’m having an annoying day, and needed to rant.  (more…)
